DJ Snowphish, partnered with DJ Lockout co-founded Bassix. Along with the rest of the crew, Bassix has come to be one of Montreal's finest productions of music and events. Bassix has attracted many people looking to have some fun for a night, sometimes for a weekend. Last winter I bumped into Snowphish, and it was a curious sight indeed.
Laptop on his lap and headset on, he was surrounded by books in a common area of Concordia University. How this individual goes on, living every day of his live as he does, dealing with all the implications of his business, while pushing his scholarly ambitions at the new John Molson School of Business: I will never know. I asked to interview him, looking to understand what drives him. He was nervous, but he agreed to let me write about him.

Snowphish launched a New Years party, about two weeks after his exam. Besides the police involvement, the event was still successful. I asked people what they thought of the police. One girl, co-founder of Chemical Warfare, told me she found it ''disrespectful'' to attempt having one gathering compromised for another. This co-founder feels for what Bassix had to go through that night. I am sure the person cried wolf to the police felt it was very urgent and important at the time, but now feels remorseful and foolish.
Needless to say it had many people spooked. Bassix kept their cool and the party continued anyway. The Bassix crew explained what was going, being very respectful, the police left without any confiscation of Bassix property.
Many DJs were invited to play, including another ambitious DJ the ravers know as Ryan Orphan. I met Ryan formally during the production of my artist pieces. He was very helpful in the gathering of a the materials, and invited me into his room to quietly work on it. My canvas was not impressed with the phallic incorporation of one of the ravers. Getting back to the point, this is what he had to say about the Bassix NYE event:
After asking if I could quote him he continued:I was booked to play it at 5 in the morning, I was also booked at 3:30AM at the 3810 Warehouse, so after my 1 hour set I had 30 minutes to get from St Patrick to the spot where Bassix was and get started, it was pretty hectic but I made it with time to spare.
The party was real underground rave vibe, I'd been doing commercial events all year with Dubmachine (...) I respect Bassix a lot for keeping it real and supporting grassroots raving, that's where I grew up five years ago and I wouldn't be where I am now if I hadn't started there.
I asked Snowphish how he viewed the future of Bassix, unable to get a hold of Lockout. ''We're bringing a stage to Dimension X'' where ''Construct, Living Stonerave.ca baby!
Decode and Ot Kun'' may play for the pleasure of all Bassix and Canadian rave fans. All whom he deems are 'Sick DJs.'' He also mentioned that it will be a ''Prism Code'' event. This will be a double stage event, two styles of electronic music (Dubstep and Psytrance) and will feature many quality DJs.
Snowphish and the mysterious Lockout continue on to what I believe become this years biggest and most exciting electronic music events. I encourage the reader to contact Bassix for any of your partying needs. They do it for fun, and not so much for the money. I do suggest you tip them for the efforts, and provide funds for transportation.
Make you're birthday party something to remember. It's not every day you are reminded how ''young'' you really are. Celebrate your youth with Bassix. They have contacts for professional photographers, DJ equipment, professional artists, and more. Expect a posting for each of these services. For more information about the quality parties I have mention in this posting, please check out the links below. I have also provided a link to Snowphish and Lockout's latest track. It contacts deep vibes, a variety of different styles which appeases to my love of House music and also won the approval of my mother.
